The Chestnut Ridge Historical Society was chartered by the state of Pennsylvania as a non-profit corporation in 1995 and was determined to be a publicly supported organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in 1996.
The Chestnut Rigde Historical Society is dedicated to collecting and preserving the oral and written history and artifacts of a portion of the Laurel Mountains that is known as the Chestnut Ridge.
Boundaries for this endeavor are: to the west, the top of Three Mile Hill in Acme: east, to the Laurel Mountain summit: north, to Pleasant Grove: south, to Indian Head.
Within that perimeter is located the Borough of Donegal, Cook, and part of Mount Pleasant in Westmoreland County. Also, Saltlick Township and a small portion of Bullskin in Fayette County.
Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Chestnut Ridge Historical Society room at the Cook Township Community Center in Stahlstown.
Monetary donations as well as gifts of artifacts, pictures, published and unpublished manuscripts of family histories and geneologies are always wecome and appreciated. All contributions are tax-deductible.
The Chestnut Ridge Historical Society Center is located in the Cook Township Community Center, route 711, Stahlstown. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday. All workers, including staff, officers and directors serve on a voluntary basis. There are no paid employees.
